Celery Seed Dressing II

1 c. sugar
½ c. vinegar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. celery seed
1 tsp. minced onion
1 c. oil
Dissolve sugar, salt, et, in vinegar. Add oil and beat until thick. This can be stored in the refrigerator for a long time, but be sure to beat again before serving. Extra good on coleslaw or lettuce salad. I used it over bagged coleslaw mix.

If you want a coleslaw recipe, the best place to look is a church or other fundraiser cookbook. I don't know why that it, but they're usually full of recipes for coleslaw and salad dressings and they rarely disappoint. This was good coleslaw.
Well, Randi asked for my MIL's peanut butter frosting recipe and I suppose there's no point in holding onto it now. I don't have the exact recipe in front of me (there really isn't an exact recipe) but I can give you the gist of it. Basically you make a creamy frosting such as this one. You can also use margarine instead of butter and/or granulated sugar instead of powdered sugar. After you make this base of creamy frosting, you add peanut butter AND marshmallow fluff. You have to use your own judgement on those ingredients.
This was actually a recipe for Whoopie Pie filling. If you just add peanut butter to a buttercream frosting recipe, you don't end up with a very fluffy frosting but this recipe is wonderfully fluffy. Do NOT leave this out in the heat though - I brought this to a cookout once and by the time we ate it the frosting was melting off the cake. Personally, I prefer it refrigerated which makes the frosting a tad more solid.

I don't think I've completely given up a particular food but I do GREATLY limit fried foods and rarely eat beef because for some reason I usually don't like the taste of it. For several years I had given up carbonated beverages completely but now I drink maybe 1 a week.
Thanks for the recipe. I have given up HFCS as much as possible. I do love the peppridge farm coconut cake( its trashy I know) and it contains HFCS. I just try to ignore the label when I buy that 1x a year.
i had to give up carbonated drinks, they aggravate my ulcer. and i greatly limit my caffeine.

I'm trying really hard to give up the refined sugars and flours. I gave up diet soda too just because I only wanted one when I was eating things I shouldn't (like nachos~~yum!)
Not only do I want to lose some weight but mostly want to eat healthier and control my cravings. (sometimes your pictures make me absolutely DROOL!)
Thousand Island Dressing. Food Poisoning. Nuff said!
We are really watching our HFCS and Partially hydrogenated oils here... however, somethings are so hard to find without the stuff. Crackers are terrible. But we find a way.
I gave up meat for a few years. It was all "in my head" stuff but I just had a hard time eating animals. It wasn't a moral or ethical debate, just a weird one. I did go back to eating it but I still have a hard time eating meat that looks like the animal it was, like a whole roasted chicken.
I gave up Coke each time I was pregnant - I was working with a bunch of (former, or if not really former at least currently clean) drug addicts both times who knew my stance on drugs and they LOVED how hard it was for me to "come off" Coca Cola which they saw as my drug of choice.
Gave up meat for about 6 months, until we learned that you get fat eating a lot of cheese!
I can't think of anything in particular that I've given up except during Lent!
That cake and frosting looks fantastic!
I gave up shrimp when I developed a severe allergy to it. It had been one of my favorite foods. But now I associate it with 24 hrs. of violent incapacitating illness. Ha!
