I've been on a quest to elevate the burger but that isn't an easy task. Aisle 6 Beef Burgers were too meatloaf-y and disappointed me. Burrito Burgers were enjoyable and made me hopeful for future burger successes. But now we're back to disappointment.

On the day I made these, I was home with a sick child. I had been on a streak of satisfying recipes but first I tried a cole slaw recipe that stopped that streak cold. It was a very basic recipe from a vintage cookbook that looked promising and the failure caught me by surprise. So I moved on to these burgers and while these weren't inedible, they just didn't have any magic in them. Unfortunately, my mind associated the pepper and onion combination with hot Italian sausage, the usual partner in this house, and the comparatively bland burger was a let down to my tastebuds.

Thanks for all of your quick dinner suggestions but I ended up buying a monster Italian sub at the grocery store since I had a very full evening ahead of me. I also bought my son his very first Kid Cuisine meal, shame on me, but I'm sure it was healthier than the sub.

Question of the Day: What are your plans for the 4th of July?

None. I am Canadian *BG*. However, we plan to celebrate Canada Day this week-end with grilled chicken, scalloped potatoes, veggie kabobs, and DH wants to attempt fireworks. Details of his injuries next week on my blog ;).

I haven't even given it a coherent thought beyond the one thought to make myself a really cool hat that I saw in a magazine somewhere - Family Fun, I think.

I'm sure we'll bbq and shoot fireworks, as we usually do. Hmmm... well, on second thought I am not sure if we will. Grandson is leaving for Boy Scout camp on Sunday, so I'm guessing he will still be gone on the 4th, unless it is an awfully short camp. And I am not sure if our granddaughter will be here or go visit her mother, so...

I plan on trying out a new key lime pie recipe from the "Key Lime Cookbook" I picked up in Key West during my vacation and will leave the grilling to the significant other this holiday around! This post made me think of the cheeseburgers my father and I ate at Cheeseburger on Duval Street; they were so good.

Enjoy your 4th!

I have'nt made any plans as of yet. I might look around for that indoor grill I've been wanting.
I was thinking about going down to the beach (Gailalee, in Rhode Island). There are a few restaurants that are known for their clam cakes and chowder, which I have'nt had in so long.
