A little bit healthier

Dill Dip
Big Kitchen Instruction Book Copyright 1998

2/3 cup mayonnaise I used 1/3 cup reduced-fat mayo and 1/3 cup regular mayo
2/3 cup sour cream I used lite sour cream
1 tablespoon grated onion
1 teaspoon dill weed
½ teaspoon onion salt I used onion powder
½ teaspoon celery salt
1 teaspoon parsley flakes

Combine all ingredients. Chill. Serve with raw vegetables.

Makes about 1 1/3 cups.

I like to pick up a veggie tray from Costco every now and then but they come with full-fat dips that I just can't resist. And of course, I prefer the dill dip over the ranch dip and the dill dip has more calories than the ranch dip. So I thought I'd try making my own dill dip and this was every bit as good as the one from Costco's veggie tray. My son loved it. I sliced the carrots up into small strips for him so he couldn't choke on them but he basically uses the veggies as a spoon to eat the dip and sometimes he forgoes the veggies all together. I wish I could get away with that.

Gosh, I was silly enough to order a similar dip mix from Tastefully Simple for $6. I just remembered (I didn't get my order yet). Six dollars and I'll have to add my own mayo and sour cream. Yeah, I'm a sucker.

This cookbook is like my local dollar store. Both aren't very large but somehow I usually find whatever I'm looking for in them.

Question of the Day: Do you have a favorite dip?

I love just about all dips. Recently, I was craving onion dip and chips, so 'splurged' and bought it. Yikes! Not good at all! But oh so delicious!

My mom's vegetable dip is my favorite. Super simple and delish!

When it comes to "chip dip" nothing beats sour cream mixed with onion soup mix. Store bought dips never have the right amount for me...either too salty or too bland. When I mix my own I can adjust to my own taste.

My favourite veggie dip is a cheat. I mix knorr veggie soup with sour cream (or 3/4 sour cream and 1/4 real mayo). I use pretty much all light products. Mix well, chill until veggie chips have softened. It is really good.

Your dip looks great!

I love dill; thanks for sharing this dip recipe!

I am a fan of the ever-sinful spinach and artichoke dip. (sigh) There is not much else that beats creamy spinach and artichokes with salty tortilla chips.

I love that cookbook! I make the Baked Potato Soup, Chicken Piccata, Ground Beef and Noodles, Scalloped Ham and Potatoes,Texas Style Chili , and White Bean Soup from it....all very good.

I love using Salsa as a dip, but I think the all time best dip has to be Mississippi Sin!

These all sound good. I also love the queso dip (melted cheese with canned Ro-Tel tomatoes and chilies, eated with tortilla chips.) And, Claire, what is Mississippi Sin? Sounds wickedly good!

Yeah, I noticed that. It seems you've 'loosed' your spelling/grammar ability. LOL!
