Too subtle
--Apple Bread

Apple Bread
Great Bread Machine Recipes Copyright 1992

For 1 lb loaf:
1 ½ teaspoons active dry yeast
2 ½ tablespoons sugar
1 ¾ cups bread flour
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
½ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ cup whole-wheat flour
1 tablespoon butter
¾ cup apple sauce

For 1 1/2 lb loaf:
2 ½ teaspoons active dry yeast
4 tablespoons sugar
2 ½ cups bread flour
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup whole-wheat flour
1 tablespoon butter
1 cup + 2 tablespoons apple sauce

This bread reminded me of cinnamon-raisin bread without the raisins (which might appeal to any raisin haters out there). It was slightly sweet and cinnamonny but it didn't scream 'APPLE!' It was good but nothing special.

I'm drawing a big blank when it comes to planning next week's recipes. I'd better think of something fast because tonight is grocery night.

I have to make brownies for my son's fall class party tonight too. What was I thinking? I was thinking, if I don't make them he won't be able to eat them (due to his peanut allergy) so I'd better make them. He loves brownies. Oh well, some day, years from now, I'll be able to rest again.

Question of the Day: Do you like your applesauce smooth or chunky? I'll take either but I always buy smooth out of habit.

Hmm... I take my applesauce as canned by my mother, chunky with cinnamon.
Of course, I don't know how to can, so I buy it in the jar and doctor it by adding chopped up apple (I cook it in a sauce pan for a while then mash it slightly with a potato masher) and cinnamon. Not quite the same, but pretty good.
Oh, and my teenage son loves jarred smooth applesauce and keeps a large jar in the fridge. He takes it out and drinks it like milk! (It's really pretty disgusting!)

Just had smooth for lunch...I am not a fan of the chunky for any kind of sauce, really, unless its meat based! Even vegetable sauces I like blended!
